Our business was founded by brothers David and Geoffrey Burrows in 1973 following their time spent converting a former Royal Navy lifeboat into a gaff rigged sailing cutter. The renovation was such an enjoyable and rewarding success, the duo decided to put their skills to use full time. They started building boats, handmade joinery, and tackling small building contracts for friends and local businesses. D&G Joinery was formed thanks to joiner David and engineer Geoffrey’s efforts.

After moving from the borrowed garage to an old Mill in Dewsbury and building a strong reputation for quality, the company’s workload continued to grow. The brothers decided to split the business, with Geoff focusing on furniture and shop fittings while David took on the building contracts. Geoff moved the joinery business from the old, multi-level mill to a larger, single-storey workshop on Pepperoyd Street in Dewsbury.

In the mid 90’s the company acquired its first CNC router, which was a significant technological leap forward for the traditional joinery business. After the firm had gone from strength to strength, we incorporated as GB Projects Ltd in 2000 which reflected our much wider range of manufacturing capabilities. Manufacturing furniture for nationwide projects, showrooms, banks & retail displays.

After further investment, acquiring additional production space and CNC machinery the decision was made for the business to remain in the family and in 2012 Geoffrey’s son Edward joined the firm full-time with a main objective of growing the business alongside his father.

After continued growth and securing new retail projects we required more production space, leading to GB Projects Ltd expanding to three sites within the Dewsbury area. However, in 2016 the decision was made to combine all three sites onto one with room to expand and invest in new machinery so growth could continue.

The move into the new premises marked the start of substantial growth, allowing Geoff and Eddy to invest in new machinery, software, and management systems. In 2023 we celebrated our 50th year in business, a proud moment for the family run company. Our mission to grow the business continues and we strive to be the UK’s leading commercial furniture manufacturer, renowned as the only partner clients trust to realise their vision.
